We leave Arusha for Tarangire National Park. This park covering approximately 2600 square kilometers is spectacular in the dry season when many of the migratory wildlife species come back to the permanent waters of the Tarangire River. Huge herds of wildebeest, zebras, elephants, eland, and oryx gather to stay in Tarangire until the onset of the rains when they migrate again to good grazing areas.
We head to Lake Manyara National Park, a safari paradise that provides the perfect introduction to Tanzania’s birdlife. More than 400 species have been recorded, and even a first-time visitor to Africa might reasonably expect to observe 100 of these in one day. Inland of the floodplain, a narrow belt of acacia woodland is the favored haunt of Manyara’s legendary tree-climbing lions and impressively tusked elephants.
After breakfast, we will drive to Serengeti National Park in the Central Seronera. This park is well-known for its healthy
stock of resident wildlife, particularly the “Big Five”: Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino, and Buffalo.
Serengeti, a UNESCO world heritage site, is
home to around 200,000 zebras, and 300,000 Thomson’s gazelles that join the wildebeests’ trek for fresh grazing. Listen to the exotic sounds of over
6 million hooves pounding the open plains of Serengeti just like how you imagined African wildlife to be.
The next day is a full day game
viewing around central Serengeti to explore the wildlife. This park is well-known for its healthy stock of resident wildlife, particularly the
“Big Five”: Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino, and Buffalo.
